Advanced Gene Tech Corp. (AGT), located in the Taichung Industrial Zone of central Taiwan, recently announced that it has invested NT$250 million (US$7.29 million) for the establishment of the first genetic protein pharmaceutical plant in Taiwan, and on October 24 began construction work for the facilities. It is the first plant of its kind on the island that meets Taiwan's GMP standards.
Founded in 1998, AGT is a Taiwan-based biotech company whose capital is entirely invested by local professionals. The firm specializes in developing new pharmaceutical products as its core business. Notably, AGT's R&D team has developed an approach to the formation of re-combining human erythropoietin (rhEPO), for which AGT has already registered a patent in both Taiwan and the U.S.
With its newly developed HerboChip TM and HerboLink TM technology, AGT caught the attention of the biotech community and created further business opportunities for itself at biotech exhibitions held in San Diego, U.S. and Hanover, Germany earlier this year. New pharmaceutical products the company has under research, such as anti-thrombosis remedies, drugs for slowing the spread of malignant tumors and medication for treating rheumatoid arthritis, are all highly regarded as being competitive in the market.
